A Blogger's Bookshelf: My Reading Habits

Hi Paraders, As I'm sure a lot of you know, I love  books. I love bookstores. I love choosing books and smelling books and flicking through the pages of a freshly printed paperback. (Though I also love kindles and their convenience.) However, nothing is that simple. And even when you love something, you have to let it go. Or maybe in this case, it lets me go instead. I'm not quite sure. Anyway, my reading habits are literally all over the place . I'm a literary mess.

A Blogger's Bookshelf: The Versions of Us

Hello, hello Paraders! Today I return with a Blogger's Bookshelf posts after reading maybe 2 books since I last did one of these... I haven't been reading much. Don't forget you can follow me on Goodreads to see what I'm currently reading and what I think of said books! My profile is right here! Anyway, today's subject is a book called The Versions of Us by Laura Barnett and it was such an emotional rollercoaster, so prepare yourselves. I gave it a massively impressed 5 out of 5 stars.  Firstly, don't read this book with too much wine because you'll have to concentrate in order to follow it accurately. There are three 'versions' in this novel, each with the same characters and protagonists. However the differences between versions begin from chapter 1, depending on how the 2 main characters meet and what this then leads to.  Once you get past the initial 6 chapters or so the differences between each version become more distinct an...

A Blogger's Bookshelf: Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore

Hey peoples! Bonus post for you today- it's about time for A Blogger's Bookshelf! Today I have a super exciting post for you as despite it being one of my most recent reads, it's become one of my favourite books. Behold, Mr Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan . I give it an amazingly awesome 5 Stars.

A Blogger's Bookshelf: The DUFF

Hi there! So while I was away, I read a few books. These 4, I do believe: To All the Boys I've Loved Before, by Jenny Han Ink and Bone, by Rachel Caine (which I already reviewed ) The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend, by Kody Keplinger (this post!) Written in Red, by Anne Bishop (which is part of a series, and will be reviewed soon)

A Blogger's Bookshelf: Ink and Bone

Well hey there! Before I dive write  in, I apologise if the format doesn't look too great- I'm restricted to writing this on my iPad, in some rather delightful 30c heat and sunshine (yay!). Anyway. Earlier today, I finished a book for the first time in a couple of weeks. Not only was it the book to get me out of my reading rut, but it was also pretty darn amazing and had me hooked pretty badly. The book in question is Rachel Caine's new book, Ink and Bone, which is also the first book of a new series for her- Novels of the Great Library.  As a rating, I give it a definite 9/10 (or 4.5/5 as I marked on Goodreads). It missed out on the full monty simply because I felt like it missed something, though I can't pinpoint what that something may be. The beginning of the book also took a little while to draw me in, though this could be because of my rut, and it wasn't really any longer than any other book would've taken.  This novel really does have ever...

A Blogger's Bookshelf: The Bone Season

Hey everyone! So it's been forever  since the last "Blogger's Bookshelf" instalment- the last one was in January in fact! I guess I haven't really been reading as much as I should've been. Anyway, today's book is "The Bone Season" by Samantha Shannon, so read on to find out a bit of info about the book, why I liked it, who else may like it and why you should consider reading it. Happy World Book Day!

Hey everyone! It's World Book Day today! As a self-proclaimed book nerd, it feels right to do a post on this day of celebrating books, even if I did only find out about this morning because of twitter.

A Blogger's Bookshelf: The Selection by Kiera Cass

The Selection by Kiera Cass 2.5/5 stars I'd recommend this book for fans of the TV show "The Bachelor" and fans of easy reads and cheesy love triangles! It's the kind of book you'd want to read on a holiday I'd say. So to start off with, as a general feeling, this book isn't bad but it isn't quite on the same level as the "Omg what did I just read, I should read that again to make sure I read that right" kind of amazing level either. Honestly, it has it's good parts, but it's quite predictable plot-wise and is also a little weak in parts- which I'll get to in a moment.

A Blogger's Bookshelf: Alpha & Omega 0.5-1

Hey everyone! Welcome to a super quick, super awesome "Blogger's Bookshelf" post! Today I'm going to share with you yet another Patricia Briggs series- the Alpha and Omega series! These books are like a little side-series to the Mercy Thompson novels, but you can read them separately if that's what you wanna do! The series kicks off with a little 3-chapter story introducing Anna into the world of Mercy. It's an amazing, fast-paced novel that really kicks off the series and grabs your attention. It comes a part of an anthology known as "on the prowl" and is just amazing. If you have already read the Mercy books, then you'll recognise some characters, such as Charles (Samuel's brother) and the Marrok having a more dominant part in the book. As I said, it really is a great introduction to the series, so make sure you don't miss it out! "Cry Wolf" is the second book in the series, and introduces the whole "Omega" con...

A Blogger's Bookshelf: Mercy Thompson 2-5

Hey everyone! So a while back, I wrote a book-review-thing on the first Mercy Thompson book- "Moon Called". You can find that review  here!  All books are by Patricia Briggs. Well, since then, I've now read the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th books in the series! Respectively, they are titled Blood Bound, Iron Kissed, Bone Crossed and Silver Borne. And they are...  amazing . They're so amazing that I want to share them with you all but also keep them all to myself... Does that make sense? :3 Have you experienced that feeling before? So what are they all about? Well, through the 2nd and 3rd books, the 'love triangle' plot thickens and resolves (dun dun dun....) but it's handled in such an amazing way that still avoids the typical love-triangle features, and I'm not going to give any of it away (it's taking a lot of effort!). I'm gonna take you briefly through the books now, so pay attention! Blood Bound You may have guessed already, but this book...

A Blogger's Bookshelf: Moon Called

Hey everyone! Hope you had a good weekend :) Today, I'm bringing you a book which was introduced to me by a dear internet friend (<3), and when I say "introduced" here, I pretty much mean it was forced upon me. Anyway, the book in question is this: Moon Called; by Patricia Briggs This book is the first book in a larger series, called the "Mercy Thompson" series. It's also linked with another of Briggs' series, known as the "Alpha & Omega" series- which is set in the same World.  What is this "Mercy Thompson" thing, you ask? Well, Mercedes (Mercy) Thompson is the main character (and the narrator) in the book- just an easygoing 'work, eat, live' female Volkswagen mechanic. Oh, and she can shift into a coyote pretty much whenever she wants to. That's right paranormal-fiction-lovers, this is a book for you!  Let's talk a little more about Mercy. She's pretty unique- even without having the amazin...

A Blogger's Bookshelf: The Winner's Curse

Hey everyone! Happy Monday :) So today's book, you may not have heard of (I know I hadn't!) but it's called "The Winner's Curse" by Marie Rutkoski, and is the first book of a trilogy, known as "The Winner's Trilogy" (though the other 2 books are yet to be released).

A Blogger's Bookshelf: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Hey everyone! Hope you all had a good weekend. Today I'm covering a book which has been rather hyped up for a while and in some places is even seen as a 'classic' that everyone should read. Behold- The Perks of Being a Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky.

A Blogger's Bookshelf: Fangirl

Happy Monday everybody! Today I bring you a post on a book that I read during the exam period and literally couldn't put down, it was so amazing. I could easily give it the "Best Book of the Year" title, and it's only the end of June. “To really be a nerd, she'd decided, you had to prefer fictional worlds to the real one.”

A Blogger's Bookshelf: 'Too Far' Series

“I had fallen too far. I was in love with Rush Finlay.”  - Blaire; "Fallen Too Far" by Abbi Glines Pfft, back of the queue Blaire. Hey everybody, I'm back from my little exam-hiatus, and bring a series of books with me today that I read somewhere at the start of the blur of exams! They're the "Too Far" books, by Abbi Glines- and there are four released, though I've only read the main three, which are (in this order): "Fallen Too Far", "Never Too Far" and "Forever Too Far". The fourth book came out in the beginning of May, and is called "Rush Too Far" but I'll mention that one just a little bit later! These books are actually a part of a larger series known as "Rosemary Beach", but it's only really the location and characters that are the same, so don't feel obliged to read them all (I didn't- but I'm sure they're just as awesome!)

A Blogger's Bookshelf: The Fault In Our Stars...

Hey guys! Happy Monday! Welcome to the weekly "Blogger's Bookshelf" posts. Today, you get a post from me, (Yippeeee!), and I'll be covering ' The Fault In Our Stars'  by John Green. First of all, I would like to say that if you haven't read this, you have to go and pick up a copy right now. Right-right now. Even if you plan to 'just watch the movie'. No. Go and read the book first. Trust me, you need the preparation for this roller-coaster of emotion! I've avoided all of the spoilers that I was oh-so-tempted to put in here, so don't worry about that either. Let me know what you think though!
